Do you have a favourite yum cha restaurant?

There is so much I love about yum cha. The bustling atmosphere which ensures you can have a good chat. Debating which dishes are the best. I love sinking down cup after cup of oolong tea (never jasmine for me) and trying to fit in one more dumpling.

How ironic I read this tonight. Today I received an invitation to my step grandmothers 90th bithday dinner. Guess what?, it is at a Yum Cha restaurant in Bourke Street. Unfortunately we cannot go as it is $44 per head so would cost us $176 for the 4 of us, money we do not have. I have not had Yum Cha since form one when we went to a place in Mount Alexander Road in Moonee Ponds called (i think )The Golden Palace. We went there for an excursion as we were studying the chinese language at school. I think it is still there right near the Moonee Ponds junction just up near the Foxtel office.I do remember it being absolutely delicious even though it was 30 years ago.I am sitting here frantically trying to recall the name of the place and have changed it twice before posting. I know it was The something Palace. HELP anyone on the name? It’s driving me crazy.I’ll be up all night trying to remember.

I’m with you, $44 is way too steep! There are plenty of places with cheaper yum cha than that. Two tables of us payed $20 a head at Shark Fin Inn last Sunday. Sorry, I’m no help on that restaurant name.

    Yo Skyhooks

Im pretty sure that I remember going there for a meal once, it was one of the first resturants I ever went to (thats if my memory is not failing). I am pretty sure its called the golden palace BUT I will be in the area tomorrow so if I dont forget I will look for it.

My Fav Yum Cha is at Southbank called the RED EMPEROR. YUMMY FOOD and the best service but quite pricey. If you want awesome food and bargin basement price, there is a yum cha resturant opposite 150 lonsdale st in the city, you only see asians in there and the occassional non asian, which means its got great food, great prices but its not 5 star, but at their prices who cares, the food is yummy. I have not been there for about 12 months but from memory its about $20 per person…BUT if anyone remembers the name (heheh me memory is failn’) please let me know too..

Plas yea the shark fin is pretty good and well priced…

Thanks Coco, next yum cha for me will be Red Emperor. :)
A couple of weeks ago, I had a great one at Lucky Chan on the corner of the casino. Recommended.
